Pebble SmartWatch Sets Kickstarter Record
Watch your watch become the next great thing in portable technology
It’s not quite a watch phone, or an iWatch either for that matter. But it’s still pretty cool, and it will connect with your iPhone or Android via Bluetooth.
Pebble launched a Kickstarter campaign on April 11, seeking funding of just $100,000. After just over 24 hours they had amassed over $1 million, and after only four days that figure had grown to more than $2.7 million.
Such is the hype surrounding their product.
And here’s why:
It connects with your iPhone or Android via Bluetooth. It will even vibrate gently to alert you to an incoming call, email or message. No need to tear your eyes away from whatever it is you’re doing, because now your watch will let you know when someone’s trying to contact you. Since all of your Contacts details will stream live from your phone, you will even know who it is without having to make the effort of picking up your phone and looking.
You can make it your own, customising your watch with any number of downloadable watch faces and internet-connected apps.
Sick of those pesky Post-it-Note reminders, shopping lists scrawled on the back of envelopes, and pen smudges over your hands and arms from hastily scrawled notes? No more. There’s an in-built to do list and notes functionality, so you can keep all your reminders, notes and shopping lists off your person, out of your bag, off your desk, and in your watch.
Now that finding has been secured, Developers are expected to scramble to code their Apps so they are compatible, and create new Apps geared specifically towards the device.
It’s not quite an i-device built into your wrist / forehead / arm, but it’s a step in that direction. Also handy for when you don’t have pockets and don’t want to carry your phone around.
All jokes aside, the product is hoped to be released by the end of the year, and it’s expected it will sell out almost immediately
